Real life Island of Dr. Moreau exists! Smh..
McNeil Island fascinates people. It has been used as some sort of containment facility throughout it’s recent history (~200 years). In WA State, where I grew up north of McNeil, it was always an interesting topic when it was shown on the evening Seattle news or written about in the newspapers. At the time, Ted Bundy was still a large topic of interest and the Green River killer was looming large. Now, it is an island where over 200 people reside and the fear of a repeat of Ted or Gary Ridgway (Green River killer) still is present, which is why the elected people in Olympia are not afraid to pay the bill to keep these folks where they are. (Besides Walla Walla wouldn’t think of hosting them even though they provide death penalty services there.) They don’t want anything to take away from their apples, planes, or software glow which brings money from those who move there.
